Plaster is where we started
Patriot has been doing plaster since 1989. Older homes with horsehair or lath-and-plaster walls need a different approach than drywall, and the wrong repair is what causes cracks to come back. We stabilize what's loose, cut out what can't be saved, and rebuild it so it bonds with the original.
- Cracks and spider cracking

- Water-damaged plaster walls and ceilings
- Horsehair and lath-and-plaster repair

- Skim coating over damaged plaster
- Historic restoration
- New Imperial veneer plaster
New Imperial veneer plaster
Veneer plaster goes over special blue board and cures harder than drywall compound, with a smooth, solid finish that resists dents and holds up for decades. It's what we'd choose for our own homes. Read plaster vs. drywall for the full comparison.
Decorative and smooth finishes
Smooth, swirl and skim-coated finishes, and repairs that match the plaster texture already on your walls.
Our plaster repair process
- Inspect the cracks, loose areas and any moisture.
- Re-attach loose plaster where it can be saved.
- Remove failed plaster and repair the lath.
- Rebuild in layers with real plaster, not drywall mud.
- Skim and blend the repair into the surrounding wall.
- Cure, then prime for paint.
Plaster vs. drywall repair
Joint compound shrinks and doesn't bond well to old plaster, which is why so many plaster patches crack again within a year. Plaster repairs made with plaster stay put.
What affects the price
We don't charge by the hour. Every job is quoted on its own. The things that move the number are:
- How big the damaged or new area is, and how many rooms are involved
- Ceiling height and access (stairwells and two-story rooms need staging)
- The texture or finish that has to be matched
- Whether the damage goes past the drywall into insulation or framing
- Drywall vs. plaster: plaster takes more skill and more steps
- Whether you want us to prime, or hand off to your painter
A photo texted to us is often enough for a ballpark. The written quote comes after we see it.

What customers say
I hired Patriot Plastering to repair an approximately 3” round hole left in my swirl ceiling after removing a light fixture… I cannot find where the repair was done. He perfectly matched the color & swirl texture.
We hired Patriot Drywall and Plastering to fix some horsehair plastered walls that were water damaged including a few sheetrock ceilings that were wavy and not installed correctly… they did a fantastic job with all of the repairs and installation.
Questions we get
Do you warranty your work?
Our one-year workmanship warranty covers new installation work. Repair work is not covered by the written warranty.
Do you charge by the hour?
No. Every project is quoted individually, based on the labor time and materials it actually needs.
How should I get the room ready?
Clear the work area and the space around it as much as you can, and take down light fixtures in the work area beforehand. We bring every tool we need and cover floors and counters.
