Texture Matching for Walls & Ceilings

The patch is the easy part. Making it invisible is the skill: swirl, orange peel, knockdown, skip trowel and smooth.

Textures we match

  • Swirl ceilings
  • Orange peel
  • Knockdown
  • Skip trowel
  • Smooth / Level 5
  • Imperial plaster skim
  • Older plaster and horsehair
  • Addition and remodel blend-ins

Why texture matches fail

Most bad matches come down to three things: the wrong tool or nap, the wrong mix consistency, and not feathering the texture out into the surrounding surface. We test on the area, adjust, and blend the edges so the change in sheen and pattern doesn't catch the light.

Additions and remodels

When a new room or opened-up wall meets the old house, the new surface has to look like it's always been there. We match the existing texture across the transition rather than stopping at a hard line.

What affects the price

We don't charge by the hour. Every job is quoted on its own. The things that move the number are:

  • How big the damaged or new area is, and how many rooms are involved
  • Ceiling height and access (stairwells and two-story rooms need staging)
  • The texture or finish that has to be matched
  • Whether the damage goes past the drywall into insulation or framing
  • Drywall vs. plaster: plaster takes more skill and more steps
  • Whether you want us to prime, or hand off to your painter

A photo texted to us is often enough for a ballpark. The written quote comes after we see it.

What customers say

★★★★★

I hired Patriot Plastering to repair an approximately 3” round hole left in my swirl ceiling after removing a light fixture… I cannot find where the repair was done. He perfectly matched the color & swirl texture.

We hired Patriot Drywall and Plastering to fix some horsehair plastered walls that were water damaged including a few sheetrock ceilings that were wavy and not installed correctly… they did a fantastic job with all of the repairs and installation.

We had purchased an older home with cracked plaster in several rooms that needed repair. Patriot did a wonderful job, and stayed in communication with us the entire time.

Questions we get

Do you charge by the hour?

No. Every project is quoted individually, based on the labor time and materials it actually needs.

How should I get the room ready?

Clear the work area and the space around it as much as you can, and take down light fixtures in the work area beforehand. We bring every tool we need and cover floors and counters.

Do you clean up after?

Yes. We protect the space while we work and aim to leave it cleaner than we found it.
